Her & The City
A Collective Expression of Nine Amateur Women Artists
From October 3 to 11, 2025, the group exhibition “Her & the City” brought together nine passionate women artists whose creativity blooms beyond the boundaries of formal academic training. The participating artists – Arifa Sultana Lata, Fatema Akhter, Snigdha Rani Mitra, Shaharin Sultana Season, Razia Sultana, Afrina Naznin, Asma Akter, Samiha Ahmed, and Arifa Sultana – showcased a diverse range of artworks that reflect their personal journeys, emotions, and connections to urban life.
Organized by Easel, a collective founded by these self-taught painters, the exhibition stood as a testament to their commitment to art as both practice and passion. Despite lacking institutional education in fine arts, each of them continues to paint with relentless dedication, proving that creativity thrives most vibrantly when fueled by genuine love for the craft.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the eminent artist Professor Farida Zaman, whose presence added both inspiration and encouragement to the participants.
Through “Her & the City”, the artists expressed the subtle interplay between women and their surroundings – how they navigate the complex rhythms of urban life while nurturing their inner worlds of color, texture, and emotion. Their canvases spoke of identity, resilience, and the quiet strength that defines women in contemporary society.
Ultimately, this exhibition was more than just a display of paintings – it was a celebration of women’s voices, artistic freedom, and the power of shared creativity. It reaffirmed that art knows no boundaries of training or status; it only asks for sincerity, passion, and the courage to create.
