Sahid Kazi was born in 1980. He completed his master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka. Later, having received the Royal Overseas Visual Arts scholarship from the UK government, he pursued advanced studies in visual art there. He is currently an associate professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
Sahid Kazi is a brilliant artist in the contemporary painting scene of Bangladesh. His paintings captivate viewers. One is compelled to be impressed by the sense of complete dedication evident in his work. Sahid’s profound conviction, hard work, and faith in nature have made him unique as an artist. His love of nature, his perception of organic structures within nature, his inner consciousness, and above all the life-rhythm or Rhythmic vitality, have a powerful presence throughout his oeuvre. In his work, a distinctive revitalization of modernity emerges through traits of representationalism. The transformations of nature through light and shadow create a certain mystery. Vincent van Gogh used to say, the mystery of mysteries is the light and shadow of nature.
The title of Sahid Kazi’s exhibition is “Impasto.” This is a style of painting in which color is applied quite thickly with a brush or a spatula so that the strokes of the medium remain visible, creating texture and a three-dimensional feel. It is a distinctive approach among Impressionist artists. A most fitting title. For this exhibition, Sahid has completed 46 oil paintings. Regarding the medium, Sahid Kazi told – Oil color on canvas and canvas on wooden panel. In Sahid Kazi’s paintings, the luminous diffusion of light is enchanting. We hope the magical expansion of light in his paintings will spread into the hearts of art-loving viewers as well.
